Most Interesting Way to Be Fired
Someone mentioned on a diabetes group that I belong to that there was something of interest on Radio 4 - something about carbohydrate-free puddings, I remember. Anyway, I remembered this as being on Between Ourselves.
At around 3.30 (Afternoon Play time), I had stopped being in meetings and
dictating (i.e. using the council-supplied headset for the Approved
Purpose), and wanted something to burble on in the background while I
filled in the I-am-about-to-be-appraised form.
Finding Afternoon Play to be of variable quality - 10% brilliant, must-listen
(and can't possibly do it on work time), 10% throw-something, and 80%
boring, I went to Between Ourselves - sugar-free puddings seemed to be exactly the right level for me to listen to.
This explains why, when someone from IT called at 3.45 I was half-
listening to a prostitute and a gigolo,(I am not quite sure whether the conversation turned to low carb sweets, or whether I'd misremebered the programme title).
Now, Listening to Audio is FORBIDDEN. And I am sure that listening to
people talking about sex is Even More FORBIDDEN.
IT guy says 'what is your asset number' (eek! which of the multiple tabs
open is Radio 4???) I read out asset number (why didn't I think to mistake
the number!!!). He takes control of my computer/ comes in / views me just as I kill, mistakenly, the
appraisal form (leaving BBC Radio 4 home page nice and visible!!!)
Well, I guess I could argue that I am having problems with diabetes
complications (logged with occupational health) and was looking for ways
to improve control (hey, I know sugar-free desserts aren't the answer to
poor control - I very rarely eat desserts)....
Being fired for listening to prostitutes could be an interesting development
to an already colourful career!
